Initial Impressions
As gaming evolves, consoles are becoming more of an all-encompassing entertainment/media device rather than being purely a gaming system. For instance, I purchased a PlayStation 3 — a seventh generation system — primarily for its Blu-ray player.
The inclusion of a Blu-ray player in the Xbox One will eliminate the need for a Sony console for many.
In addition to the Blu-ray player, the HDMI pass-through and the improvements to the GUI will put the Xbox One even more in the center of the living room. Not only will we be able to consume more varieties of media through the Xbox, we will be able to switch between sources with ease or even access multiple sources simultaneously.
With Skype integration, this system might also replace the traditional home phone.
It will be interesting to see what developers are able to do with the new hardware. Unfortunately they didn’t share too much in the Xbox One press conference.
We’ll share more details as they are released on the journey to the release date.
