Hardly a day goes by that there’s not another report of a digital security breach. This time we see Ubisoft servers hacked, so once again it’s time to change your passwords.
Security update regarding your Ubisoft account
The official email (quoted below) explains that hackers gained access to some Ubisoft servers which contained user names, email addresses, and encrypted passwords.
Despite the encryption, Ubisoft is recommending users reset their passwords — as well as any other sites where you use the same (or similar) passwords.
No Payment Information Was Exposed
One piece of good news in the announcement is that Ubisoft doesn’t store users’ payment information (e.g. credit card numbers).
Ubisoft’s Email
If you have an account with Ubisoft, you may have already received this email, but in case you lost it or never received it:
Dear Member,
We recently found that one of our Web sites was exploited to gain unauthorized access to some of our online systems. We instantly took steps to close off this access, investigate the incident and begin restoring the integrity of any compromised systems.
During this process, we learned that data had been illegally accessed from our account database, including user names, email addresses and encrypted passwords. Please note that no personal payment information is stored with Ubisoft, meaning your debit/credit card information was safe from this intrusion.
[…]
Out of an abundance of caution, we also recommend that you change your password on any other Web site or service where you use the same or a similar password.
