L.A. Noire: How to Turn on Black and White Mode

L.A. Noire by default is in full color, but like the genre it is based on, you can enjoy this game in black and white. The choice is yours: do you want the game to feel like you are actually living in the world of Cole Phelps in all its photorealism (i.e. in color), or do you want to experience it as if you are watching a movie from this time period (i.e. black and white)? This mini-guide will show you how to do it.

From the in-game pause menu, you can easily change the display settings from color to black and white. While you are playing the game, simply press pause (the “start” button on the Xbox 360 controller). Depending on what you are doing at that particular point in the game, your menu options will look a little different (e.g. if you are interrogating someone, you will only be able to view the Log), but generally speaking, there will be a choice for “Options” in the menu. Select “Options” and then select “Display.” The first setting in the “Display” menu is “Black & White.” From here, simply choose if you want black and white mode on or off. If you are making a change, the game will briefly save your display settings, and then you can get back to the action in the color setting of your choice.
