This is shaping up to be an exciting week for the gaming industry. Sony announced the PS4, and now rumors are pointing towards an Xbox 720 reveal in the near future.
The Evidence
IGN published this video about the rumors:
To recap, this is what we know:
- There’s a company named U.S. Techs
- U.S. Techs does events
- U.S. Techs has previously done events for Microsoft
- U.S. Techs registered Microsoft’s domain name for the E3 conference last year
- U.S. Techs just registered the domain name XboxEvent.com
The Conclusion: Ambiguity
It makes sense that the domain name would be used for information about Microsoft’s new console, but what it will contain or when it will actually resolve to a functioning webpage is still unknown.
The only comment reporters have been able to get from Microsoft is this equivocal quote:
“Microsoft often acquires various domain names as part of its ongoing business strategy, but beyond that we have no comment.”
But what more do you expect from a company that hasn’t even said they are working on a new console yet.
Other rumors predict an Xbox 720 reveal in April, but only time will tell.
When do you think the Xbox 720 will be announced?
