HTML and CSS can be quite ominous, especially for beginners. Thankfully, many have gone before us in the ways of web development and have graciously decided to share their learning. I recently came across a very useful site doing just this.
HTML Dog has a ton of tutorials, reference guides, articles, and examples to get you going on your HTML or CSS adventures. The site’s tutorials are usefully divided by competency: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. With a little bit of perseverance and studying, you can be whipping up snazzy web pages in no time.
I can almost hear some people asking, why should I take the time to learn HTML or CSS when there are already so many templates already available and an abundance of WYSIWYG editors like DreamWeaver? That’s a valid question. There is a lot you can do without using any HTML or CSS. However, there are sometimes that a bit of knowledge in these areas can save a lot of time. Templates won’t always be exactly what you want, and editors like DreamWeaver may do exactly what you want it to. For those who aren’t interested in doing everything from scratch (can’t blame you at all), having some knowledge of these topics can be just another tool for those times when you need to get under the hood and make some minor (or major) adjustments.
