Much of the detective work you do in L.A. Noire revolves around questions. From suspects to witnesses to other people of interest, you need the facts, and you have to ask questions to get them. After you ask a question, you must choose your response to the suspect’s answer: is it the “Truth,” is it a “Lie,” or should you “Doubt”? Get the question right and you are rewarded with more information; get the question wrong and you don’t get anything but curses and mean looks.
Know Your Options
Choosing “Truth” is pretty straight forward: the suspect is speaking honestly. Things get trickier when the suspects are dishonest. Remember, if you accuse the suspect of lying, you need evidence to support your claim. If you think the suspect is lying, review your notebook to see if there is evidence to back up the accusation. If you have none, it’s better to choose “Doubt.”
Pay Attention to Body Language
Rockstar made a good decision with the MotionScan technology used to create L.A. Noire. The graphics are realistic, and the characters are lifelike. Use this to your advantage. When a suspect is lying, the body language can be a dead giveaway. Watch for shifty eyes and fidgeting. If the suspect remains calm and collected, he is either telling the truth or has a great poker face. Which brings us to the next point:
Remember the Details
If you pay attention to the details of the case, you can easily spot a suspect in their lies. This will help you penetrate even the thickest poker faces. As you play the game, try to figure out the case in your own mind; don’t just wait for the game to tell you what happened. Compare new information against your mental image of the case to see if it lines up. If it doesn’t, call the bluff.
Get Help From Others
I’ve been there, too, and I know it can be frustrating to be a few minutes away from a five-star rating only to blow it on a seemingly easy question. If you’re stuck on a question or just want all the answers in the whole game, check out my L.A. Noire Case Guides. They will take you through every case in the game, including the DLC, show you every clue, the answer to every question, and help you get five stars on every case.
