The Halo 4 Chief, Smash! Achievement is one of the simplest achievements to unlock in Halo 4. Even if you don’t get it in your first play through, it’s easy to jump back in and pick it up. To unlock the Chief, Smash! Achievement, you have to kill 3 Crawlers in one hit with the Gravity Hammer in Mission 8 (that’s “Midnight,” by the way).
After you fight through the first few rooms on the Didact’s ship, Cortana opens up a portal for you. When you jump through, you have to fight some of the Didact’s forces, and then go through another portal. When you go through one of the portals, you wind up in what appears to be an armory. Directly in front of you as you come through the portal is a Gravity Hammer. Pick up the Gravity Hammer and go through the next portal when it opens.
When you come out of the portal, there is a Knight with his back to you. Smash him or melee him and then proceed to the center of the room. There are several Crawlers and Knights in this area, so you shouldn’t have much trouble getting their attention. If they aren’t seeing you at first though, just run around on the top level until the Crawlers start coming towards you. The Knights are relatively stationary and won’t come attack if you stay on the top level.
As the Crawlers start approaching, be patient. You don’t want to kill them one at a time; you want to kill three at the same time. The trick is to get three Crawlers close enough together that one hit of the Gravity Hammer will kill them all. The best way to do this is to retreat as the Crawlers approach. The longer you have them follow you, the closer they will get to each other as they are all trying to take the most direct path to you.
When you have three or more Crawlers close together, advance towards the one in the middle and hit with your Gravity Hammer. This should kill all three if they are close enough together. If you only kill one or two and can’t find any more Crawlers, you can jump off the edge or let yourself get killed by the Knights to start over at the portal. Or you can just go the pause menu and choose “Revert to Last Save.”
One more important point is that this achievement is unlockable on the “Easy” difficulty setting.
As promised, here is a video showing you exactly how to unlock the Halo 4 Chief, Smash! Achievement and earn yourself a cool 20 gamer points.
